In this its 25th Anniversary year, Edith Cowan University in partnership with Australian University Sport, will play host to 1,200 university and TAFE students from across Western Australia to contest the inaugural Western University Games.
From 3-7 July 2016, student-athletes will decend upon Bunbury to complete in 18 sports and engage in an exciting social program. The Western University Games is the newest multisport event to be added to the Australian University Sport event calendar
Australian University Sport CEO Don Knapp is pleased to see the Games developed in the west region in 2016.
“Regional university sporting events provide student-athletes with the opportunity to pursue a dual education and sport pathway, which results in both tertiary qualifications and sport participation at all levels of sport across Australia,” Mr Knapp said.
The 2016 Western University Games is expected to include AFL 9s for women and Australian Rules for men, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, football, futsal, golf singles, handball, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, Rugby 7s, squash singles, tennis singles, tenpin bowling, touch, ultimate (frisbee) and volleyball.
