Today saw the grand finale of the 2016 Western University Games, presented by ‘Alcohol. Think Again’ and there was no shortage of excitement for spectators to follow.
This week has been a huge week of sport in Bunbury, with over 700 student-athletes from five universities playing across 15 different sports. All universities were well represented by their students who can all be congratulated on the way they displayed true sportsmanship on and off the field.
After four days of intense competition, The University of Western Australia were victorious, claiming eight pennants and the title of Overall Champion University for 2016. Curtin University came in second place with seven pennants with Murdoch University in third place with three pennants.
The Spirit of the Games trophy, awarded to the university that displays good sportsmanship and fair play, was awarded to The University of Western Australia.
Murdoch University took out the Per Capita Championship, awarded to the university winning the most pennants per student numbers.
Australian University Sport will now turn its focus to the Australian University Games which will take place in Perth from 25-30 September 2016.
